Not all pepper sprays are created equally!  “OC” stands for “Oleoresin Capsicum” which is a chemically compounded inflammatory agent.  Pepper spray causes the mucous membranes to swell resulting in immediate dilation of the eye capillaries resulting in temporary blindness, temporary paralysis of the larynx (trouble breathing), choking, and coughing.  Theses effects are accompanied by intense sensations of burning of the skin and nausea.  Pepper spray is available in streams, fogs, and foams.  Some, like the Fox Labs “Mean Green” even die the assailants face green to be identified by the police.

Scoville Heat Units (SHU) are used to measure the concentration or “heat” of pepper spray.  The chart above represents the various levels “heat” of peppers and the derived pepper spray.  Our sprays range from 2,000,000 to 5,300,000 SHU.

Many states have no restrictions on concealing and carrying pepper spray.  Other states require concealed carry permits.  States such as Michigan cap the concentration levels of OC (2%).  Other states such as NY require persons to purchase from FFL dealer’s in the state or else from pharmacists in the state.
